Mild pain
Milder conditions, such as headaches, sore throats or toothache, can often be treated with non-prescription medicines such as paracetamol, or a low-strength anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen.
Mild – Moderate pain
For patients suffering pain from arthritis, migraines, injuries or post-operative discomfort, a doctor may prescribe stronger treatment to manage the pain these conditions cause. These range from: high-strength non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), such as Celebrex or Diclofenac; triptamine-based drugs such as Relpax; or a Co-Codamol such as Kapake or Solpadol.
Moderate – Severe pain
Severe pain medications are often used to treat more serious conditions involving chronic pain, such as motor neurone disease or rheumatoid arthritis. These include: high strength ibuprofen. The following medication has been reclassified for UK residents (controlled drug) and is no longer available, Tramadol medications such as Zydol, Zamadol or Mabron; or combination treatments such as Tramacet.
