EllaOne
EllaOne is an emergency hormonal contraceptive. It is used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex has occurred, or after a primary contraceptive method has failed. It contains the ingredient ulipristal acetate, which is thought to work by stopping the ovaries from releasing eggs, and by altering the uterus lining to make conditions less conducive for the development of an egg.
Once deemed suitable, this treatment should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sexual intercourse has occurred, and no later than 120 hours afterwards. Like all emergency contraceptives, it is not effective in 100 per cent of cases, even though it may have been correctly applied. You should ensure you are not already pregnant before taking this treatment.
