Pain Relief
There are a number of medicines available to help alleviate pain. These vary in strength and it is always important to speak with your doctor to ensure that you’re using the right treatment.
Mild pain
Milder conditions, such as headaches, sore throats or toothache, can often be treated with non-prescription medicines such as paracetamol, or a low-strength anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen.
Mild – Moderate pain
For patients suffering pain from arthritis, migraines, injuries or post-operative discomfort, a doctor may prescribe stronger treatment to manage the pain these conditions cause. These range from: high-strength non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), such as Celebrex or Diclofenac; triptamine-based drugs such as Relpax; or a Co-Codamol such as Kapake or Solpadol.
Moderate – Severe pain
Severe pain medications are often used to treat more serious conditions involving chronic pain, such as motor neurone disease or rheumatoid arthritis. These include: high strength ibuprofen. The following medication has been reclassified for UK residents (controlled drug) and is no longer available, Tramadol medications such as Zydol, Zamadol or Mabron; or combination treatments such as Tramacet.
