How to Keep Fit on a Budget

It’s summer, and that means one thing for those more fortunate among us – holiday! That’s right. It’s that time of year where many of us are trying to slim down or tone up as much as we can so that we look better on the beach, or by the pool.

But getting in shape is an investment, as many of us know. Getting fit doesn’t just require energy and time, it can also cost money – lots of money. Gym memberships are not cheap, and neither is all the gear and equipment you need to adhere to a comprehensive programme of exercise.

So, is there anything you can do to look after your purse strings, but also improve your fitness? You’ll be glad to know there is. Here is our guide to getting trim without breaking the bank:

Local Amenities

Instead of shelling out for a monthly membership at your local high street gym, have a look at the council-supplied facilities in your area. A number of parks up and down the country have outdoor gyms and exercise equipment you can utilise for free, and many colleges and universities will have swimming pools which you’ll be able to use at reduced rates.

Games Console

Although it might mean an initial cost of around £100 for a console, and £40 for a game, exercise and fitness centres such as the Wii Fit might save you a bundle on costs in the long run. If you already have the console, even better.

Alter Your Routine

If your place of work is in walking distance, try to leave the car at home, and walk to work instead. Normally get the lift up to your apartment? Give yourself a little extra time, and take the stairs. Little changes like these can make a lot of difference when it comes to burning excess calories.

Check Out the App Store

You don’t need to invest in a personal trainer with an expensive hourly rate when you can get something similar on the app store for as little as £1.49, or even for free.
