How to Lose Weight Without Going on a Diet
How we look at our own bodies often differs from the way that other people see us. We tend to be more critical of ourselves when it comes to our appearance. This is something which leads many to try fad diets and exercise programmes, when they want to lose weight so they can look better on holiday, or after over-indulging a little at Christmas.
But gimmicky diets aren’t for everyone. They can be tough to stick to, and the sometimes imbalance of healthy nutrients can leave people feeling tired and lethargic. Many people see this as a necessary evil, but it isn’t. There are ways you can lose weight at a healthy rate without going on a specific diet – it’s all about your attitude to food and exercise.
With that in mind, here are our four top tips for losing weight without resorting to a drastic diet programme:
Limit Your Saturated Fats
If you’re looking to lose weight and your current diet isn’t the greatest, the biggest offender is likely saturated fats. These are fats which your body cannot break down, and they are quite easy to identify. Cakes, chocolate, deep-fried snacks – these are just a few examples of foods high in sat fats. You don’t have to cut them out completely, but limiting them to ‘special treat’ status will produce noticeable differences.
Eat Little and Often
Having one or two big meals a day is tough on your body. In these cases, it will often hang on to the fat you consume, as it can’t predict when your next meal is going to be. Eating four or five smaller meals is more beneficial for your body, as it enables your system to get into a better digestive routine.
Curb Those Late Night Snacks
Eating a snack or a meal late at night, just before going to bed, is a mistake if you’re trying to shed a few pounds. At this time, your body is in the process of shutting down, and won’t be able to process what you’re consuming. Try to eat your evening meal before 8pm where possible.
Light Exercise
We’re not suggesting you hit the gym for hours on end every day, but going for a jog or a swim once or twice a week can help you keep the weight off.
