Spots and blemishes are facts of everyday life, which we all have to deal with at some point in our lives – but that doesn’t make suffering with acne any easier. Although it doesn’t pose any serious health risks, acne can be frustrating to deal with, and make you feel less confident about your appearance.

So what can you do about it? Here are our four top tips for fighting acne:

Get Some Rest

Skin blemishes can often come about as a result of stress, overwork, or exhaustion. When you undergo tough periods of physical, mental or emotional strain, it’s usually your skin which shows the first signs of it – this can sometimes be in the form of spots. So, if you want to reduce your susceptibility to spots, address your work/life balance. Try your best to eliminate any factors which might be causing you undue stress.

Adjust Your Diet

It’s long been said that eating too much chocolate can cause spots. While some experts suggest there isn’t any solid evidence to support this theory, it is true that the more greasy food you consume, the greasier and more prone to spots your skin is going to be. So if you’re suffering from spots, cut down on the fried breakfasts of eggs and bacon. We all like a portion of ‘chippy’ chips every now and again, but try not to make it a regular habit.

Cleanse Twice a Day

For many people, a once-daily facial cleanse might be enough. But if you’re suffering from acne, you might want to up this to twice a day. A good routine is to go through a thorough wash in the morning with an exfoliator or face wash, and then a dry-cleanse at night with some facial wipes.

Speak to Your Doctor

In some cases, acne might be the result of a bacterial infection, or a side effect of another condition. It could also be a reaction to a particular washing product you might be using. If acne persists, it might be advisable to pay a visit to your doctor. If a condition is causing your acne, they may be able to prescribe a treatment to help you.
